Ten on Tuesday

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked? Hmmmm...good question. The only thing I can really think of is BBQ. I always hates BBQ and I'd hate it when we'd go to BBQ restaurants. I'd always order plain chicken. Then one day my old boss (who told me she can't read my blog at work because it's marked as porn or something else "restricted") had us over for a party and her chef husband made ribs. And I didn't want to be rude. So I tried to icky BBQ. Which ended up being heaven on a bone. Granted, I've never had ribs as good as those again but I still love going to BBQ restaurants now that I know how awesome ribs are.

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?  My dad gets me Bon Appetit, my mother-in-law gets me Cooking Light, and my grandmother-in-law (is that a real thing?) gets me Taste of Home Healthy Cooking. I love them all...but I probably won't have them renew them next year since it's getting harder and harder to read the little font. Thank goodness for ipads and computers where I can zoom in and increase the font on everything or I'd never read anything anymore.

3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook? Balsamic vinegar. I add it to everything. And salt.

4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult? Asparagus.

5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird? I love some very strange foods. Cocktail onions, grapefruit with lemon juice and kosher salt (thanks Christine!)...basically anything sour and/or salty.

6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with? I don't really cook with anything that out there...oh wait! When I was on weight watchers, I used to make black bean brownies. 1 can of blackbeans mixed with one package of brownie mix. Bake like normal. They taste just like regular brownies but have more fiber so are fewer "points". That was a weird one.

7. Do you have any major food allergies? I'm lactose intolerant but I can usually stomach a fair amount of dairy if I take a couple lactaids first. I used to be allergic to scallops when I was little. My parents didn't realize this though and my dad went through a phase where he was putting scallops on our salad every night. Like clockwork, I'd throw up every single midnight. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th night that they realized I was allergic. I love scallops but I'm always afraid to eat more than one...just in case.

8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try? I'm generally intimidated by recipes with more than 10 ingredients. Well, not so much as intimidated as I'm just too lazy to put that much effort into it.

9. Do you bake? No. And I shouldn't. The time I thought Extra Virgin Olive Oil was an acceptable substitute for vegetable oil in a cookie recipe solidified that fact.

10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why? Does Man v. Food or Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives count?

I'm sorry... You don't like BBQ? Sweets is one thing (don't understand that either), but BBQ???

It was nice knowing you.

Haha at Chelsea's comment :)

gahhhh I HATE scallops - the texture is just vomit inducing to me for some reason.

recipes with more than 10 ingredients are both too much effort and slightly intimidating to me, also.

Man v. Food = on of my favorite shows on TV.

I've never heard of what you did with #6. I'm on WW now, so I might just try that (...and of course, not tell the wifey. :)
